A Modest Proposal

cover

“A Modest Proposal” is a Juvenalian satirical essay written and published by Jonathan Swift in 1729. Swift suggests that the impoverished Irish might ease their economic troubles by selling their children as food for rich gentlemen and ladies, listing financial benefits and possible styles of preparation. I decided to depict Swift’s sarcastic suggestions through three dimensional, semi-realistic illustrations presenting the title as a child in its various stages of preparation. In the first stage of the work process I hand-crafted the title in its various stages with white plasticine. In a second step I digitally colored the photographed models.
